Address Madison, CT
Project consisted of two buildings in downtown Madison on a long, narrow lot. The front building, Building A, is a three-story, 6,000 s.f. wood and structural-steel-framed building with plywood shear-walls and structural steel moment frames for the lateral systems. The rear structure, Building B is a four-story, 26,500 s.f., structural-steel-framed building with composite floor slabs.
Existing soil conditions required both buildings be founded on mat slab foundations due to the loose fills on-site being susceptible to liquefaction. The floor to floor heights for the building were very tight so particular attention was paid to the depth of the structural systems. Lateral resistance was provided in the form of concrete masonry shear walls and structural steel moment frames.
