Cortland Crossing Retail Center - Cortlandt Manor, NY

Architect SBLM Architects

New ground up 98,000 sf retail shopping center core and shell. The new shopping center proposed by Acadia Realty Trust in Cortlandt Manor, NY required extensive cut and fills on an existing site to provide for the relatively level conditions across the site.

THE CHALLENGE

Foundations: Analysis and design of new concrete spread footings, foundations walls, retaining walls, and loading docks. Design of new foundation was coordinated with the varying soil bearing capacities across the site as a result of the cut and fill operations. Many of the rear foundation wall were designed as retaining wall due to the rise in proposed finishing grading around the rear of the shopping center.

THE SOLUTION

Super-Structure: Structural steel with open web steel joists, metal deck and concrete masonry unit bearing / shear walls. The Western end of the shopping center included a new clock tower that stood 20 feet above the roof level. e2 engineers designed this clock tower and supporting structural steel in the roof.
